The story behind me writing this book started with my desire to go back to the private school I attended in 9th grade. Both my parents and I wanted me to attend the same high school for all 4 years and we choose carefully after visiting several campuses. Unfortunately my family was hit hard by the economy and I wasn’t able to go back in the 10th grade. I was home schooled for a year and found it really hard to keep the structure provided by the teachers and classroom environment. So I begged and pleaded with my parents to go back and they said I could go back if I could get a scholarship or we can figure out someway to pay for it. This at first seemed impossible because honestly, how is a 16 year old going to pay for one of the best private schools?
So I started by writing a letter to the dean of the school with the back-up support of family and friends who wrote letters of support. I talked about my desire to come back to the school, our current financial struggles and what I felt I could bring to the campus.
To my surprise... I was awarded a partial scholarship (½ OFF). I was so excited with the thought of going back to this school. And then it hit me... I still need to earn or raise a lot of money. So that’s when I started thinking about what I could do. After several brainstorming sessions with my parents we came up with writing a book on how teens can learn to talk to their parents in a new way. Because both my parents are communication specialists this seemed like it would was a good idea. The only problem is I had a summer to write it, publish it, market it, set up a web site and someway for people to pay for and receive the book. So after some more brainstorming we came up with writing an eBook to start and then later look for support with completing an entire book. So that’s what I did (with support)
