(A Peek Inside The Book...)

As teens, how do we  view  our own strengths when our parents see the world differently than how we see it?

Many times our parents view, or judgment of us isn't quite accurate. That is because they are viewing the world through a “skew”; or their own unique perspective. The same thing is happening with us teens; we are putting the world together piece by piece and creating our own unique perspective.

One of the things that has made the biggest differences for me is learning about peoples learning, thinking and communication preferences.
The knowledge that I think differently than my parents, siblings, friends, and teachers -and that these differences are predictable - can be used to understand people better. And one of the coolest things I’ve learned how to do is how to get better grades in classes when I understand what the teacher wants. I used to spend a lot of time trying to turn in assignments that were more my preference but when I learned about this I could stop wasting time and turn in what the teacher wanted.  Some of the classes I was struggling in all of a sudden became easy. Instead of making people ‘wrong’ for thinking or speaking differently, I’ve gained a new outlook that allows me not only to NOT get bugged by others- but I’ve learned to appreciate the differences.
